More than 20 people have lost their lives in the Kali community of Gumi Local Government Area, Zamfara State, as they attempted to escape an attack by bandits.
This tragic incident occurred when their boat capsized in a river.
According to an anonymous resident, the bandits arrived in the village around 1:00 pm last Sunday, prompting the villagers to flee in order to secure their safety.
Witnesses observed the bandits approaching Kalli village on motorcycles armed with advanced weapons. This compelled the villagers to evacuate the area, resulting in an overloaded boat that capsized in the Birnin Magaji River, claiming the lives of 20 individuals.
The remains of five victims were found at Falale River, four at Birnin Magaji River, and three at Gadar Gummi River.
The bandits' disruptive activities have been reported in various other communities, including Kwammaka, Kwammaka Jibi, Kwammaka Mai Katsina, Kallin, and Kazura villages, all within the Gummi local government area. As of now, the police have not issued an official statement on this distressing incident.
