A coalition of youth organizations in Benue State has opted to withdraw from the upcoming nationwide protests scheduled for August 1 and 10.
The Benue Youth Good Governance Movement (BYGGM), Benue Advancement Forum (BAF), and Benue Pro-Active Network (BPN) issued a joint statement on Saturday, announcing their decision following careful consideration and intervention by Professor Joseph Terlumun Utsev, the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation.
In a statement co-signed by its conveners, Abajih Terhide Gabriel and Oche Daniel Itodo, the coalition expressed concerns about the current security situation in the state, citing its volatility and susceptibility to violence. They emphasized the need to avoid exacerbating the security challenges with a potentially unrest-inducing rally.
The coalition highlighted their decision to direct their efforts towards more positive and productive activities aimed at benefiting their communities, expressing gratitude for Professor Utsev's intervention.
Emphasizing the belief that violence and unrest are not conducive to problem-solving, the coalition stressed the importance of working toward constructive solutions through dialogue and engagement. They urged support for the government and Professor Utsev's efforts to address their concerns.
