We Will Recruit 30,000 Youths, Don’t Protest – Minister Of Police Affairs Begs Nigerians

Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, the Minister of State for Police Affairs, expressed the view that President Bola Tinubu is dedicated to addressing economic challenges and has the best interests of Nigerians at heart.

She urged Nigerian youths not to participate in the planned nationwide protest scheduled for August 1-10 and assured them that the Ministry of Police Affairs is committed to enlisting 30,000 young people into the police force. Additionally, she mentioned that the ministry has already initiated the recruitment process for 10,000 individuals who are expected to join the police force in 2024.

Emphasizing the ministry's efforts to tackle the mistreatment of citizens by certain officers, she underscored the prioritization of the welfare of police personnel.

In a statement on Sunday, the Minister of State for Police Affairs appealed to Nigerian youths, urging them to refrain from joining the planned protest and instead consider embracing a dialogue-oriented approach. She highlighted the importance of peaceful engagement, dialogue, and cooperation in fostering a prosperous Nigeria.

Moreover, Mrs. Sulaiman-Ibrahim underscored the Ministry of Police Affairs' commitment to improving police-civilian relations, enhancing the welfare of police personnel, and recruiting youth into the police force.

She mentioned the ministry's focus on youth-centric programs, community strengthening, resilience building, and sustainable coping mechanisms.

She brought attention to the ministry's engagement with youths and local communities through town hall meetings and the development of a transformative roadmap for reforming the Nigeria Police Force.

Mrs. Sulaiman-Ibrahim also emphasized the ministry's partnerships with the Ministry of Youths to facilitate comprehensive engagement between the NPF and young people and establish a channel for reporting grievances.

She highlighted the ministry's efforts to enhance the Police Public Complaint Committee and the Complaint Response Unit of the NPF to expedite the resolution of complaints against police officers. Mrs. Sulaiman-Ibrahim urged individuals to utilize these platforms to report any concerns or challenges related to the NPF.
