The University of Lagos (UNILAG) admission requirements for the 2024/2025 academic year, for both UTME and Direct Entry candidates, play a significant role in prospective students' application process. The institution's stringent admission criteria necessitate a thorough understanding of potential applicants.
UNILAG's admission approach is notably selective, with specific courses imposing restrictions, such as the non-acceptance of two sitting results. Prospective students aiming for admission are strongly advised to meticulously analyze the admission requirements for their chosen courses to enhance their admission prospects.
Key facets of the University of Lagos:
1. Pedigree:As one of Nigeria's pioneer universities, the University of Lagos was established in response to the Ashby Commission's proposition to create universities in Nigeria in 1948. It has since evolved into one of the nation's premier academic institutions and has garnered global recognition for its academic excellence.
2. Academic Structure: Commencing with three faculties – law, medicine, and commerce/business administration – the university has expanded to encompass 12 faculties, including arts, basic medical sciences, business administration, clinical sciences, dental sciences, education, engineering, environmental sciences, law, pharmacy, sciences, and social sciences.
3. Multi-Campus Establishment: With three campuses situated in Akoka, Surulere (hosting the College of Medicine), and Yaba, the University of Lagos' physical presence spans across Lagos mainland, underscoring its notable expansion and influence within the academic landscape.
These defining attributes showcase the University of Lagos as a distinguished institution, underscoring the importance of adhering to its admission guidelines to ensure a successful application process.
How to Gain Admission Into UNILAG
Admission into the University of Lagos (UNILAG) can be attained through two main routes: the JAMB UTME examination or Direct Entry.
Prospective students seeking admission via the JAMB UTME are required to take the JAMB examination and score a minimum of 200. Subsequently, they must undergo the UNILAG post UTME screening before admission is granted. It is important to note that UNILAG takes into consideration both the JAMB UTME performance and the post UTME performance when offering admission.
For Direct Entry candidates, such as those with OND, ND, NCE, IJMB, Cambridge A level, BSc, HND, or ICAN certificates, UNILAG grants direct admission into 200L. Candidates are expected to obtain the JAMB Direct Entry form from JAMB and follow the stipulated instructions to apply for courses at UNILAG.
It is worth noting that there have been speculations regarding biases in UNILAG's Direct Entry admissions. However, I am inclined to dismiss these claims. With a commendable academic record, admission to the University of Lagos (UNILAG) in 2024 is within reach.
UNILAG General Cutoff Mark for 2024/2025
Following the 2020 JAMB policy meeting, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, in conjunction with other leading tertiary institutions in Nigeria, set UNILAG's general cutoff mark at 180. Consequently, candidates who scored below 180 in the recent JAMB examination will not be eligible for admission to the University of Lagos (UNILAG).
Having gained an understanding of the various admission pathways and the courses offered at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), I will now delineate the admission requirements for both UTME and Direct Entry candidates.
