The Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has issued a stern warning to local government and local government education authority officials believed to have misappropriated N30,000 in Sallah gifts meant for workers in the state.
Governor Aliyu voiced his concerns on Friday during an address at the Government House, Sokoto. This statement was communicated by the Press Secretary to the Governor, Abubakar Bawa, and subsequently shared with the press.
Expressing dismay, Governor Aliyu condemned the actions of certain financial officers—particularly at the local government level—who reportedly withheld the approved N30,000 Sallah gifts from the state government intended for their staff.
He stressed, "I am perturbed by the fact that some individuals have withheld the financial support meant to stabilize our workers during the Sallah festive season."
Furthermore, Governor Aliyu demanded the prompt return of the misused funds and cautioned of severe consequences should the funds not be restored. He affirmed that those found culpable will face punitive measures as a deterrent to others.
Moreover, the Governor directed all heads of agencies where such misconduct occurred to swiftly compile a list of affected workers and ensure their reimbursement. He reassured the people of his administration's unwavering commitment to ensuring transparency, accountability, and prudent management of public funds for the collective benefit of all.
He asserted, "Our administration is resolute in its pursuit of eradicating corruption and any associated misconduct. Those who believe they can engage in financial malpractice with impunity are mistaken. We are dedicated to governing with the interest of the people at heart and will uphold accountability without compromise."
Governor Aliyu urged the citizens of the state to continue supporting the present administration's unyielding dedication to fulfilling its electoral pledges.
