Kogi assembly approves recruitment of 1050 hunters

The Kogi State House of Assembly has granted approval for the recruitment of 1,050 hunters aimed at bolstering the state's security framework. The approval was deliberated and sanctioned during the plenary session held in Lokoja on Wednesday.

The House received a formal request, addressed to the State Assembly, seeking the green light for the recruitment of 50 hunters for each of the 21 Local Government Areas within the State. The request was submitted by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Salami Ozigi Deedat.

Upon reviewing the proposal during the plenary session, the Speaker of the House, Aliyu Umar Yusuf, affirmed that the dire security challenges in the State, coupled with the shortage of manpower, necessitated the recruitment.

Subsequently, the Legislators unanimously endorsed the recruitment of 1,050 hunters through a voice vote. It was further stipulated that the remuneration of the recruited hunters would be the responsibility of the Caretaker Chairmen of the local governments.
