Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State has alleged that supporters of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, made an unsuccessful attempt to bomb the Hotel Presidential in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
Fubara asserted that the thwarted bombing was intended to provide a pretext for declaring a state of emergency in the state. He made these statements while hosting a delegation from the Senate Committee on Privatisation and Commercialisation, led by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, in Port Harcourt.
Fubara revealed, "As a matter of fact, let me tell you, I am fully informed about the situation. Yesterday (Tuesday), they (protesters) were aware of your presence in the state.
Consequently, there was an attempt to create a serious disturbance. In fact, there was a plot to detonate explosives at the Hotel Presidential due to your visit. However, the individual attempting the act was inadvertently injured when the explosive detonated prematurely, causing severe injuries."
He continued, "The intention behind this act was for you to witness the chaos and subsequently advocate for a state of emergency. The plan was for a local representative to raise the issue of a state of emergency, exploiting the events witnessed during your visit."
The statements were made by Governor Fubara during a discussion with the visiting Senate Committee delegation.
