Finidi George has tendered his resignation from his role as the head coach of the Super Eagles following the poor performance of players using their 2026 World Cup qualifying matches.
His decision comes shortly after his appointment as the 41st manager of the Nigerian national team. Reports suggest that Finidi made this choice following the announcement by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to enlist a foreign Coach.
Former Eagles media officer, Toyin Ibitoye, confirmed the departure, stating, "News just in: Finidi George has resigned from his managerial position." Finidi was appointed on April 29, 2024, succeeding Jose Peseiro, whose contract had ended in February.
During his brief tenure, Finidi oversaw a 1-1 draw with South Africa and a 2-1 defeat to Benin Republic in the 2026 World Cup qualifying series.
Previously, Finidi served as an assistant to coach José Santos Peseiro for 20 months before assuming the managerial role on an interim basis during two friendly matches in Morocco in April.
