The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has recently relieved the Head of Department (HoD) of Fine and Applied Arts, Prof. Victor Ecoma, of his position due to his failure to present students from his department for the 36th Convocation Ceremony.
This decision was made by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Florence Banku Obi, following what was deemed a glaring act of negligence and incompetence on Prof. Ecoma's part. The announcement of Prof. Ecoma's termination was included in a release issued by the university's Registrar, Mr. Gabriel Egbe, and subsequently made available to Vanguard in Calabar, the state capital, on Monday.
The university administration considers Prof. Ecoma's inability to fulfill his duty and ensure the participation of his students in the important academic event to be a matter of grave concern.
In light of this development, the Vice Chancellor has promptly directed Prof. Ecoma to relinquish all university properties in his possession to his successor, Prof. Echeta Christian Chemezie, who has been appointed to assume the position.
