Several prominent members of the political landscape in Enugu have officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) party. Among them are Senator Chuka Utazi, who previously represented Enugu North Senatorial district under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); former Minister for Aviation, Mrs. Fidelia Njeze, who defected to the Labour Party (LP) during the 2023 general elections; and Dr. Dave Nnamani, a former gubernatorial aspirant for the LP in the last general elections.
Other notable defectors to the APC in the state include Comrade Chuka Idoko, who was the senatorial candidate of ADC for the Enugu North senatorial district, Ambassador Jonathan Eze, the APGA senatorial candidate for Enugu North district, Chief Goody Jinegwo, a prominent and esteemed businessman, Mrs. Ada Odeh, an Enugu-based legal practitioner, Mr. Umunna Ugwu, and many others, including supporters.
They were formally received into the APC party at the state party secretariat in Enugu by a group of high-ranking officials, including the state party chairman, Ugochukwu Agballa, the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Mr. Uche Nnaji, the National Population Commissioner for Enugu state, Hon. Ejike Eze, the Deputy National Chairman South of the APC, Chief Emma Eneukwu, the National Vice Chairman South of the party, Dr. Ijeoma Arodiogbu, and other stakeholders of the APC in the state.
In a communiqué issued after the Stakeholders’ meeting on Saturday, the APC in Enugu state extended felicitations to President Bola Tinubu on his 72nd birthday, noting the celebration’s alignment with Good Friday and the Holy month of Ramadan.
The stakeholders praised President Tinubu for his economic reforms, particularly acknowledging the gradual stabilization of foreign exchange. They likened the current economic challenges to the pains of childbirth, which ultimately lead to joy, echoing the President’s analogy and urging patience amongst Nigerians.
The stakeholders also announced the party’s willingness to welcome new members and possibly reintegrate those previously suspended or expelled, contingent upon sincere repentance.
