The Plateau Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended seven individuals suspected of vandalizing railway tracks and slippers in the state. Alexander Barunde, the Commandant of the Corps in the state, disclosed that his team arrested the suspects at Kwakwi community in Riyom Local Government Area of the state following an intelligence report from some members of the community.
The suspects were found in possession of sixty pieces of railway tracks, thirty slippers, and other materials. They had loaded the items in two trucks and were reportedly headed to an unknown destination before they were intercepted by the security operatives.
The suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded, according to Barunde. Ahmed Mohammed, one of the suspects, denied any knowledge of the vandalism and claimed that they were only contracted to transport the items.
This development comes as the state government has concluded arrangements to revive rail mass transit within the Jos and Bukuru metropolis, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
