The Benue State Government has authorized the implementation of the 9-3-4 education system within the state. Dr. Terna Francis, the Director General of the Benue State Education Quality Assurance Agency (BEQA), revealed this information during a live Agate Radio/TV program known as 'Perspective', which was monitored in Makurdi.

The Director General stated that the education system would commence in September 2024, with the objective of equipping learners with practical skills for self-reliance after Basic Nine. The policy, which was endorsed by the Ministry of Education and Knowledge Management, as well as the BEQA, will require certification after Upper Basic as a prerequisite for entry into Post Basic, ensuring a smooth transition for students into senior secondary school.

Dr. Francis reaffirmed BEQA's commitment to training teachers and implementing innovative teaching methodologies such as Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) to improve individual learners' progress in school.

He praised Governor Hyacinth Alia's dedication to improving and revitalizing public schools in the state, and urged all stakeholders to participate in the administration's praiseworthy initiative. Dr. Francis called on parents to prioritize their children's education by ensuring prompt school resumption, and clarified that the issue of WAEC/NECO supervision nominations was exclusive to government-employed teachers and aimed at preventing exam malpractice.
